A baby was strapped to my back as another crawled around in the playpen. I stayed up all night days for months sanding and taking wallpaper off, all with one child. Ha! The whole thing started to make sense, but wasn't quite completed. To complete this task I had planned to invest a significant amount of time and money looking for my dream house. In order to stay within my budget, I started going to estate sales along with my three brothers to search for diamonds in the rough. Every week, we would stroll through estate and garage sales on Thursdays and Saturdays buying a mixture of old and new pieces. I then spent the rest of my time painting and sanding outside in our driveway. The furniture was like this... which is where I got my passion for restoring. I kept on restoring furniture even after we had completed the renovation of our home. I had a space on the local market, and sold pieces there. Eventually, I had too lots of pieces to keep in the room available. There were open houses in my home where over 1 000 people came through on one weekend, and purchase whatever they saw on the ground floor. My company Growing Days began here. As my business flourished as did our family. The balance between work and family was crucial for me. I wanted to be a mom as well as a business owner who was successful. Growing Days just seemed to work. My beautiful Nora arrived in the year 2013 and was our fourth child. My business was going well however I needed a break. I took a break from furniture that was vintage to enjoy more quality time with my kids. That was exactly what i needed. However after a few months off the phone started to ring. I started receiving requests from people requesting for assistance with home improvements and design of interiors. Most of these people were people who had been through my house during furniture open houses! In the following months, I began to take on new clients in my own way. In the end, I had many clients, and had a business of home renovations. If you had told me that this business of mine would turn into an idea for a TV show for the DIY Network I probably would have laughed. It's hilarious to look back on it.
